I saw what appeared to be a very pale medium-sized slow worm out on the surface, in amongst the dead bracken. On closer inspection the animal was in fact lying with its ventral surface uppermost and unfortunatley appeared to be dead. It was not obviously injured or decomposed and therefore perhaps it had emerged from hiberantion a bit too early and succumbed to the cold. Peter Vaughan

Peter Vaughan Senior Member Joined: 21 Mar 2005 No. of posts: 170 View other posts by Peter Vaughan	Posted: 13 Feb 2010 Yes it was optimistic to go out looking last Saturday, given the recent weather conditions, but - In 2008 my first Adder sighting at this site was on 9 February; - if you don't look you won't find and; - good reptile sites are usually good for other wildlife, so always a chance of seeing something interesting, even on a cold winter day. Having said that there are limits to my optimism - with no more than 2C, grey sky and some sleet I haven't looked today! Peter Peter Vaughan

One very small one + 2 adults in my "other" site by my caravan near Tregaron, mid Wales. I counted 40 ish here last summer, as per my photos on other thread. ST2440280.9372685185
